One verse per screen, with a step bar

Jeremiah 17:5–8 (NIV) is shown one verse at a time: verse 6 sits alone mid-screen under a four-part progress bar, with the reference and an information button above, “Bible version: NIV” below, and text-size and notes buttons at the bottom.

Design takeaway

A verse at a time slows reading down and suits meditation on a short passage. The step bar keeps the passage boundary in view; the rest of the chapter is out of sight.

How much text at once

One word, one verse, one verse in focus with its context, one passage or a whole chapter: choose the unit of Scripture a reading screen asks someone to hold, and let them move along the spectrum.

Feeds, cards and stories

From scrolling a chapter as one page, through pages to turn, full-screen cards in order and a small daily set of stories, to a feed that carries on verse after verse and a shuffled feed that never ends: decide how a reader moves through Scripture, where they stop, and how far each verse is from its context.
